Review | Braun Silk-épil 7 Epilator

I have been itching to write this review however I thought it would be best to wait a month or so, so I could test it out properly! Now ladies, the dream of having totally smooth legs is no longer a dream! I have been shaving my legs since my early teens and I could never get super smooth legs, so I decided to try a different hair removal process and turned to epilation. Even the word ‘epilator‘ sounded a little scary to me but I bit the bullet and just went for it! I have had my eye on this epilator for quite some time but no matter how many Google searches I did, I couldn’t find a decent review on this particular epilator.

In the end, I bought the Braun Silk-épil 7 SE7681 Epilator with the 5 attachments…

So far I have used the efficiency, massage and shaver cap and I‘m really liking them! The shaver cap is miles better than my current shaver that I have had for quite a few years. It actually gives a close to the skin shave without scratching your skin as you go, which is what mine used to do all the time! Maybe I just needed a new shaver but meh! As for the epilator heads, as this was my first epilator I did stick with the massaging cap for quite some time until I felt brave enough to try out the efficiency cap and in all honestly, I didn’t notice a huge difference between the two. I mean both do hurt a bit, but you get used to it after a while and barely feel it. I haven’t been brave enough to use the epilator on my underarms or bikini area yet, however, I will most likely give it a go at some point.

Now let’s get onto the main attraction! The epilator itself…

A great feature with this epilator is that it has a pivoting head which goes to the contours of your legs so you can get every last hair! Another thing I love is the Smartlight, it’s an extremely helpful feature as it shows up every hair in the epilators path so you can be sure to get every hair. It also has two-speed settings and the slower of which is good for beginners as it can ease you into the feeling the hairs being plucked out by the tweezers.

You also get a travel bag, cleaning brush and pre-epilation wipes (forgot to take a picture of them! How professional!)

Like I said, when I was looking for reviews on this epilator I couldn’t find any detailed reviews, so I wanted to write a post on every detail I can just in case someone is in the same position as me… What I really wanted to know was what it felt like and if it was painful or not. The only way I can describe how it feels is like getting a small static electric shock, just multiple times. As for is it painful? I didn’t think it was, the only times when it did hurt was if there was a hair that was slightly thicker than the rest, however, it all depends on your pain threshold. I am quite the weakling (a Nerf gun bullet bruises me!) but I didn’t find it painful enough that I needed to stop. It really is a case of once you get used to the feeling, you take no notice of it. However, if it gets too painful for you then epilate in the shower or bath, as this model can be used wet or dry. It helps to relax your skin and soothe any pain.
You can buy this epilator from quite a few different places such as Boots, Superdrug and Amazon, however, I bought mine from eBay… Don’t worry it was brand new! I bought it from the shop Best Brands UK which is partnered with P&G. I paid £64.99 as opposed to the £129.99 price tag from Boots. I don’t think it is on offer anymore with Best Brands UK, however, I know there is an offer on Boots’ website where you get 10% off when you spend over £45 (as of 03/04/2014).
If you have any more questions on epilators then feel free to ask below.

My First Purchase With: Liz Earle

So today I bring you a rather exciting post, well to me anyway! I made my very first order with Liz Earle and got a few goodies to try out. So here’s what I thought about the whole process

Ordering and delivery:
I found their ordering system quite simple, I liked that there was the option to pay with PayPal which always makes me feel a little safer with online shopping however if you don’t have a PayPal account then you can pay with most credit and debit cards. As for delivery, I ordered on Thursday and my package arrived on Saturday, so in my opinion that is pretty darn quick!
My items came in a strong sturdy box, so straight away I was happy as in the past I have ordered items from other brands and the box has been damaged as well as the items inside. Once I had opened the box and tissue paper I was pleasantly surprised to see packing peanuts, which proves that Liz Earle takes every step they can to keep your items safe during delivery.

What I bought:

I bought a total of 6 items and got a freebie because, with every order you make, Liz Earle give you a free 30ml sample of the Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser and a muslin cloth. I bought the skincare essential regime, which is a monthly offer they do with a variety of different products, this months offer included:

I got all those items for just £43, if I had bought them separately then it would have cost me £73.50… So I saved £30.50!
As I was getting the Daily Eye Repair, I thought I would get a night cream for my eyes. So I bought the Smoothing Line Serum 10ml (£14.75), I wanted to get a line reducing serum because I have quite bad lines that my make-up tends to sink into and so far this is actually helping! The last thing I bought was a foundation, now it is very rare for me to buy a foundation online without seeing a sample, however, I put all my faith into people reviews and YouTube and decided to get the Signature Foundation 25ml (£21) in the shade Porcelain 01. So far so good, I have used it once since I have had it, it’s more of a cream foundation than a liquid and is easily buildable. I will be doing an individual review on each item that I got once I have been using them for a little while.
All in all, I am extremely impressed with the quality of their products and their presentation! Well done Liz Earle, you have gained a customer for life!
What’s your favourite Liz Earle product?

My First Purchase: Blank Canvas Cosmetics

I would like to start off by saying Happy New Year and as it is a new year things are going to be starting to change! Blogging more frequently will be one of them, so here is the first post of the year! After quite a few months on planning to buy a few things from Blank Canvas Cosmetics, I took the plunge in November and I am more than pleased with the items I ordered.

About Blank Canvas Cosmetics

Blank Canvas Cosmetics are an online cosmetics brand based in Ireland. They sell excellent makeup palettes, brushes and beauty blenders at affordable prices.

The packaging

One thing that I will say is that they make sure that their items get to you in perfect condition and the amount of packaging that surround the items proves that! It was literally one bag inside another then surrounded by three more layers of bubble wrap!
What I bought

I bought the Face Perfection Kit 1, which includes a 12 piece my face and eye pro deluxe professional brush kit, contour/highlight kit and an airbrush blender.

My thoughts so far

The airbrush blender has been a winner for me so far, it applies my foundation so smoothly which leaves my skin looking flawless! In the past with brushes, I have found that some can make my foundation look a little cakey and stuck to my skin. However with the airbrush blender works the foundation into my skin so seamlessly it’s amazing! I haven’t tried the face brushes yet however I have used the eye brushes and so far I am quite pleased, they’re not as soft as my Real Techniques, however, I think after a few washes they will become less stiff! As for the contour/highlight kit, I recently went away so I only packed the basics and I took this kit with me. It was my setting powder and my eyeshadow so I would say that it is a great multi-tasking kit!
Once I have been using the entire set for a few months, I will do an individual review for everything. All in all, I will most likely purchase more items from Blank Canvas Cosmetics in the future.
Have you got any items from Blank Canvas Cosmetics? If so, what are your thoughts about them?

My First Romwe Purchase
I am so excited to do this post! This is my very first purchase from and I couldn’t be happier! I was too excited to open it, so instead of using my Canon 600D I just used my iPhone 4S for the pictures! Sorry…

So I’m going to start off with the ordering and delivery process, I ordered the coat on the 19th of November and received it today (28th of November) which isn’t too bad seeing as Romwe are based in China. I was able to track the package the whole way, however, it wasn’t as instant as I would like as it is a couple of days behind on the updates of where the package was.
Now onto the packaging… Which I was very impressed with!
Looking at the package itself it is extremely well wrapped! So well wrapped that it took me ages to be able to get into it!
After a few minutes of trying to get into the bag, here is what was inside! A returns form and the item I ordered… Pretty standard.
However, this is where I noticed that Romwe do things a little differently. I love how the item is in a zip-lock bag instead of the normal bag sealed with sellotape! I think it’s great because I can reuse the bag afterwards.
So let’s get to the good part! The item! I ordered the Zippered Black Panel Woolen Coat for just £21.11 (full price £73.85). Now you’re probably wondering how I managed to knock off £52.74, well that’s simple they had a ‘Thanksgiving gift’ offer on which meant the coat was £24.84 however because this was my first purchase I got an extra 15% off as I signed up to their newsletters. Plus it is free shipping no matter how much you spend! That to me just screams amazing! (Pssst.. The coat is currently on offer for £46.99 click here)
So here it is straight out of the packet! It is nicely folded, unlike most items I have ordered from other stores where it comes all screwed up in a ball and I have to hang it in the airing cupboard to get the creases out!
Here’s the full view, yes I know it doesn’t look great like this, however, I will do an outfit post featuring this coat very soon so you can get a better look! There are so many little details on this coat, I love the use of the wool, faux leather and silver zips/buttons. It just brings the whole coat together and I know I will be able to pair this with many outfits already!
Working zip on the sleeve
Mixing textures is quite a big trend at the moment so another reason why this coat has it all! It’ll make it so simple to create an outfit that is bang on trend by just having this coat as the main attraction!
Well there is my new gorgeous coat from! Be sure to keep an eye out for an outfit post very soon.

Jemma Kidd I-Define Mascara

You can’t buy it online… I wonder why?!

May I just start off with… THIS IS AWFUL! I got this free with a magazine a little while back and I have only just started using it every so often. The whole look of the packaging screams tacky and the formula of the mascara supports that. So let’s just break this down bit by bit.
  • The brush is way too big for the tube so if there is any remaining mascara on the brush when you go to put it back in the tube it goes literally everywhere!
  • The mascara goes on extremely clumpy and makes all my lashes looks like one big super lash!
  • The mascara dries and flakes which gives you that lovely ‘I’ve just been punched in the eye’ look.
  • It smells a little funky too.
Also to put the cherry on the cake, I had the most horrendous reaction to this mascara, it made my eyes puff up, turned the whites of my eyes scarlet and they wouldn’t stop watering until I removed it.
So this is by far the worst mascara I have ever used and it now has a lovely new home in the bin!
If you’ve tried this mascara tell me your opinions on it, maybe I just had a bad one who knows but I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Accessorize ‘You Are Everything’ Eyeshadow Palette

For today’s post I am reviewing the Accessorize ‘You Are Everything’ Eyeshadow Palette (£8.95). Over the past few weeks, this has been my go-to palette simply because of all the variations of colours and textures that are in this one palette!

I have used pretty much all the shades in this palette for casual, formal and costume make-up looks which proves that it is a versatile palette. There are 32 shades to choose from which are either shimmer or matte shadows, so you really can create any look imaginable. My favourite combination is the using the lightest shade in the far left row as my base then using the shade below it in my crease to give my eyes a very subtle smokey eye! I did film a tutorial for the makeup look which you can watch below! (Expect to see a lot more make-up tutorials with this palette in the near future.)
In my opinion, £8.95 is quite cheap for 32 shades! I find that I don’t have to use any eye primer to stop them from creasing which I think is amazing and they last on my eyes literally all day without fading! I have tried a lot of eyeshadows in my 3 years of using makeup and I can honestly say that all 32 shades are my number one!
So if you buy any palette then make sure it is this one and fall in love with it just as hard as I have! If you already have it, then tell me what you think about it.

L’oreal Paris True Match Foundation

I’ve been brave and stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to try out some new foundations, this time I’m trying out L’oreal’s True Match Foundation in Rose Ivory and it is fantastic!

I’ve seen loads of beauty guru’s rant and rave about this foundation but didn’t go ahead and try it. It’s quite cheap (£9.99) considering the quality of the foundation. It’s a very liquidy foundation however it gives excellent coverage, my main skin concern is really rosy cheeks, redness around my nose and the odd blemish or two, this foundation covered all the redness and blemishes with ease! It gives a subtle dewy finish on the skin which I usually don’t like however because it is subtle I can cope with it. There is only one downfall, it isn’t as long lasting as I hoped but I guess it is to be expected because is quite a thin consistency.
The shade ranges are brilliant online however in my local Superdrug there we’re only a select few which was a little annoying however Rose Ivory matches me perfectly! Recently I’ve been mixing my Max Factor 3in1 Foundation with this and it helps with the lasting problem so all in all this foundation is a huge winner for me and I will continue to use this foundation both on its own and mixed with my Max Factor foundation!
If there are any foundations that you would like to try out and review then please let me know.

Max Factor All Day 3in1 Foundation

Today I am writing a review for Max Factor’s Face Finity 3in1 Foundation in Warm Almond 45. I have used this foundation for the past year or so and I just cannot go without it! The only thing I have changed is the shade I use, I had to go down a few shades because I noticed as my summer tan was fading, my foundation was making my face look a bit like a wotsit compared to the rest of my body. I am now using the shade Warm Almond 45 which is absolutely perfect, even if I do get a slight tan my skin will still blend in with my face. However the shade range is not the only thing I love about this foundation, the fact that it is a primer, concealer AND a foundation all in one! Which A) cuts time in the morning and B) saves you a bit of money because you don’t have to buy three products.

The consistency is pretty thick until it starts running out then it thins out quite a lot. However, it doesn’t change how the foundation looks on the skin. Its a great foundation no matter what the weather is outside it stays put (even in heavy rain!) and it keeps those rosy cheeks hidden when it is chilly outside. There is only one fault I can find with it and that is if I’m having a bad skin day with breakouts or dryness it tends to build up around the area so it sticks out like a sore thumb! So if you have spot-prone/dry skin then I’d say stay away from this foundation unless you have skin like mine where it only freaks out occasionally.
Other than that little blip it’s an amazing foundation and I think it’s worth its £11.99 price tag!

Nivea Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover

As you can see I have used quite a lot of this product before I have reviewed it but that is only because I was unsure about it. It’s a two-phase formula, one is an oil phase which helps to remove all of your eye make-up (including waterproof mascaras and eyeliners!) and the second is an aqueous phase which protects and cares for your eyelashes.

Now the thing that made me unsure about this product was the slightly oily residue that it left behind on my eyelids, it made them feel almost slimy which isn’t something that you want to feel around your eyes! To get rid of that feeling I just used a dry cotton pad and wiped away the residue. So that’s the only thing that I didn’t like, now onto what I did like! When the said that it would remove all of your eye make-up they meant it! I am a huge fan of gel eyeliners and some can be pretty difficult to remove after a long day but this takes it off in a few swipes!
It’s very simple to use, all you need to do is shake the bottle so the two formula’s mix then put a small amount onto a cotton pad, leave it pressed against your eyelids for about 10 seconds then swipe the pad outwards and hey presto! Make-up free eyes (not even a slight panda eye)!
This is by far the best eye make-up remover I have tried and it’s the cheapest! So what’s not to love?!
Where to buy:
Boots – £3.59
Superdrug – £3.29
Are there any products that I need to try and you’d like to see a review?

Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover

Lately, I have been really getting into doing my nails and caring for them which also meant that I needed a more gentle way of removing nail varnish if I wanted to change it up. The first time I discovered this product was in a beauty box by SheSaidBeauty (which sadly no longer do boxes) I tried it out straight away and I have been hooked ever since!!

I always used to hate having to take my nail varnish off because it was such a horrible job also it wasn’t cost effective because of all the cotton pads that I would be throwing away to do just one hand! However for under £5 in any Superdrug or Boots (it’s usually in the Bourjois make-up stand or over with the nail varnish removers) you can get something that will last you literally months! Inside this little pot is a sponge that has been soaked in nail varnish remover and all you have to do is put your finger in the sponge, twist it around a few times and the varnish gone!
There is only one downfall with this product and that is the smell… On the bottle, it says that it has a red fruit and vanilla fragrance, however, all I can smell is really strong nail varnish remover! So I definitely advise you to be in a well-ventilated place when you use this or it will make you feel very dizzy and nauseous!
So, in conclusion, I really do love this product and I have bought a replacement for when this one runs out or doesn’t work as well anymore, all that I hope is that Bourjois try to tone down the smell.
