13 Personal Questions Tag

Hello Munchkins,
Today on Adriana’s blog, I spotted a little questions tag and I’ve always loved these! It’s a great way for you to get to know me and even ask more questions if needs be! I’ll leave the questions below so if you’d like to join in with this tag you can..

1. What do you order at Starbucks?
I’m a big coffee drinker! I love their pumpkin spiced latte, however, I have found a way you can have a similar drink throughout the year.. Ask for a white mocha with chai! It’s not the exact same but it is very similar. If the barista seems confused by it, then I just ask for a regular mocha!
2. What’s one thing in your wardrobe that you cannot live without?
BOOTS!! Specifically, my Missguided boots.. I love that you can easily dress them up or down! A lady almost pinched my boots once whilst I was trying shoes on in Primark so I’m clearly not the only one that loves them!

3. What’s one thing most people do not know about you?
Hmm, that’s a tricky one! I’m pretty open about my life.. Some people don’t know that the boyfriend and I are planning on getting a bunny sometime this year.. Does that count?
4. What’s one thing you want to do before you die?
I would love to see the Northern Lights! Just the idea of seeing such a beautiful phenomenon and then staying in a cute, cosy cabin seems perfect to me.
5. What’s one food you cannot live without?
I love stir-frys.. I’m a big lover of veggies and Chinese cooking so add a little chicken into that and I’m set for life!
6. What’s one quote you live your life by?
‘Believe you can and you’re almost there’ – Theodore Roosevelt
It’s taught me to never give up on what I want and nothing is impossible to achieve if you put your mind to it! It’s what kept me pushing to get my promotion and hey, I got it!
7. What do you like/dislike about the youtube/blogging community?
Only recently I have discovered blogger chats on Twitter and the community I have discovered are amazing! It’s nice to be able to talk to so many like-minded people all in once place.. As it stands I haven’t found anything I dislike.
8. What’s the number one song on your Ipod or Itunes?
It changes all the time.. Music plays such a big part in my life! Currently, it is Florence + the Machine – Stand By Me I cannot stop listening to this song on repeat!!
9. What kind of style would you describe yourself as having?
I don’t think I fit into just one style.. I take things from each style really, so I would have to say mixed!
10. Favourite number?
I don’t have one, but for shits and gigs I’ll say ’16’ because 2016 was a good year so let’s go with that!
11. Two hobbies?
I love interior design.. I adore The Sims games because I can design a whole house, unfortunately, I can’t ‘design’ my own home because I do live with my boyfriend. As much as I’d love our house to look like #bloggergoals it wouldn’t be fair to make him live in a house that has white marble and copper everywhere! I guess my second hobby would be gaming? It’s great immersing yourself into another world, plus it’s something we do as a couple.
12. Two pet peeves?
Loud eaters. That’s the only thing I cannot stand!!
13. Your guilty pleasure?
I don’t think I have any to be fair..
Have you done this tag? Link it below in the comments!

Dear 2016,

This year has been one of the most life changing yet amazing years of my life.. Every goal I set myself I achieved. At the beginning of 2016, I was in a completely different place! Emotionally, I wasn’t doing too great and looking back.. I don’t think I realised how low I had become.. However, by the time February came around things started looking up!
Save enough money to get my next car

Now to some a Vauxhall Corsa may not be that exciting, however to me it was my reward for working my ass off and saving every penny I could. I’ve never been great with saving money because I would always get to a certain amount then decide to treat myself, so the fact I managed to control my usual habits of spending my money is something as well!

Find complete happiness

Like I said at the start of this post, the beginning of 2016 wasn’t great, to say the least.. I was stuck in a cycle of unhappiness and to be fair, I was just existing.. Not really living. I got into the routine of only getting out of bed when I had to go to work and the odd occasion where I would see friends, I was mostly watching stuff on Netflix or sleeping the days away. Turns out I only needed one person to get me out of that cycle.. That person was Toby. Our paths have always crossed since we met at school in 2005, he’s always been one of the few people that I could easily talk to about anything and everything! We’ve been together since March and I don’t think I could be any happier than I am right now.. He’s the reason why I’m going to get my ass into gear with my YouTube and blog, he knows I enjoy creating content but I had lost my confidence or motivation to do it.. He’s restored my motivation and he’s helping me come up with content and the best thing.. He’s willing to be in videos and posts! Yaaaas! I’m planning on buying myself a ‘vlogging‘ camera just so I have a good camera which is small enough to fit in my handbag and doesn’t weigh it down! We’re planning a trip to Edinburgh sometime this year and I would like to film it as well as any other moments throughout the year.

Step up the ladder at work
After about a year and a half of learning and working crazy hours I finally got the promotion I was after! I’m now a team leader in a Co-Op store and I absolutely love it! I’ve always been a fan of responsibility and this position has so much responsibility so it suits me down to the ground.. The only sad part is after February this year I will be made redundant because they’re closing the store I’m working in.. However, it gives me the chance to try something or somewhere new!
I’m looking forward to seeing what 2017 brings!

Three Things I’ve Learned..

Since the beginning of 2016, a lot of things have changed in my life.. Luckily, all for the better, but along the way, I have learned a few lessons!
Holding on is a lot more painful than letting go.. So my previous relationship ended quite some time ago now and looking back on it, even though there were a few good happy memories that remained.. A lot of the times it felt like we were together just for the sake of it and it was part of our daily routine. The problem was we just grew out of each other I think. We wanted different things, nothing was really happening and back then I hoped things would change, but they didn’t. You CANNOT change someones way of thinking, so step one.. Get that delusion out of your head! Most importantly, if you are in a relationship and you’re spending more of your time being upset, then maybe it’s time to let go.. I’m not talking a few days, I’m talking more months! It may seem like a horrible thought at first, but believe me.. You’ll be much happier in the long run!
Take photos of anything and everything.. My current boyfriend is an absolute dream! He has a lot of amazing traits, but the lesson he’s taught me is to capture more memories.. Since the beginning, he’s always getting sneak photos of me and making these cute little collages and it’s the sweetest thing ever! The amount of random little walks we’ve done and the beautiful little hideaways he’s showed me is incredible! So I’ve been trying to make more of an effort to take photos of these places, his pup Millie and us just being silly. My phone has been full of photos until recently when I put them all on my laptop.. I had around 200 photos of all the little trips we’ve gone on and Snapchat screenshots (Snapchat filters are so entertaining!). For our little adventures and my everyday life, I have created another Instagram.. @_velvetfox_ is my main account and my second is @_thevelvetdiaries_. I’ve only just created the account so there aren’t many posts yet, but it’s a working progress!
Stop stressing yourself over things that don’t really matter.. I’ve been letting myself get stressed about work when really I should leave it at those automatic doors once I leave.. There have been a lot of changes in my store and it’s frustrating when you have two new managers in your store and they’re tying to alter everything all at once and it’s just not working. I do feel sorry for my boyfriend because I do bombard him with all the things that have annoyed me that day and bless him, he just sits and listens to me go on about all this bullsh*t that isn’t really important! As much as I’m trying to switch off to what’s happening on the level above me, I still can’t help but get involved sometimes and make it my business and that is what I need to stop doing as much. I’m still working on this one, but I have got better.. I think.. Hmm.
The moral of this post is don’t stay unhappy for the sake of it, be with someone or around people that make you smile without trying and just relax.. Everything will be fine!
So what’s new with me? Well, I’m currently house hunting with my boyfriend which is all very exciting and frustrating at the same time! Each time we seem to find somewhere we like it’s either gone or the photos are very misleading! We’ll get there though.. Hopefully! Another biggie is that I’m wearing glasses now! I don’t have to wear them all the time, but they help with the headaches and blurry vision I tend to get when I’m at work or I’ve been focused on a screen for too long. Oh and like the rest of the world, I‘m loving Pokémon Go! I’ve lost a bit of weight with all the walking around we‘ve been doing so it’s a useful little app!

My Makeup Collection & Storage | 2016

Hello everyone! So looking through my old posts, I haven’t written a makeup collection post since 2013 and it’s safe to say my makeup collection has grown and changed a fair amount since then! I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone of only using ‘drugstore’ makeup and my little collection is still growing! If I have written any reviews for the products in this post I will link them as I go along.

Oat Cakes Recipe

I’ve been doing these oat cakes for a couple of years now and I’m forever playing around with the recipe. I often take a few into work with me for when I have my breaks and they are quite filling.. So to make 12 of these little cakes, then all you will need is..
150ml vegetable oil | 200g caster sugar | 1 large egg | 1tsp cinnamon | 1tsp vanilla | 140g plain flour | 1/4 tsp bicarb of soda | 300g oats | 100g raisins | *optional* a bar of dark chocolate
First off you’ll want to preheat your oven to 200 degrees (gas mark 6) and put your raisins in a small bowl of boiling water from the kettle until you need them later. Soaking them before baking will stop any that are exposed getting burnt!
In a medium sized bowl, mix your oil and sugar into a paste.

Beat the egg, raisin water, cinnamon and vanilla in a separate jug, then add to the oil and sugar paste

Finally, add the flour, bicarb of soda, oats and raisins. This is also where you can add any other things to the mix, this time I’m adding dark chocolate.

Put balls of the mixture onto a lined baking tray and bake for around 15 minutes until they’re golden brown but still soft.

Leave them to cool on the tray for 10 minutes otherwise, they will fall apart, then usually I transfer them onto a plate to cool completely before putting them away in an airtight box.

A perfect addition to a Netflix binge and a cup of coffee!

Update of 2016

Hello everyone, so once again I vanished.. However a lot of things have changed since the last time I posted anything, so I shall start with the biggest news. After almost 5yrs of being together, myself and Steve have parted ways, which is the main reason why I haven’t been posting anything.. We’ve been apart for a little under four months and I will admit, things were hard to begin with, but I threw myself into my work and friends to keep me going. As it stands now I am back to my old bubbly self with a whole new lease happiness in front of me with many new adventures!

The second biggest news is.. I HAVE MY NEW CAR!! After a year of saving, I finally have it.. Now have a Vauxhall Corsa SE and I am in love with it! Mainly because it has heated seats and steering wheel so no more driving with an ice wheel for me.. Not that it’s cold anymore thanks to this lovely spring weather we’ve been having recently, but it’s a nice thing to have just in case. I have named my car Quinn after Harley Quinn, does that make me sad that I name my cars? Either way, I love my car and I am so happy to finally have something to show for all the hard work I’ve done.
The third and final bit of big news is that I am moments away from becoming a team leader! Something else I’ve been working towards over the past year and I’m glad it’s finally paying off. I’m yet to find my footing to which store I will be in, but that’s a decision I need to make and consider all the pros and cons for each in the next month or so.
On a smaller scale, you may notice that this blog is no longer called ‘SophieBlogs’, I decided to have a little blog rebranding and in theory start from scratch! So my blog, TwitterInstagram and Facebook all have new names.
So that’s about it right now.. 2016 has definitely been a mixed bag of a year so far, but things have only been getting better lately so I’m looking forward to the rest of this year to see what else it has in for me.

Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk

I have been using the Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk for quite some time now and it has quickly become one of my favourite ways to remove makeup at the end of the day.

I love how this cleanser comes with a pump so you can’t use too much product, you only need two pumps which is more than enough to cleanse and refresh your skin. It starts out as a cream, but once mixed with a little water it becomes more like a cleansing milk. It does remove makeup well until it gets to mascara.. When I first used it to remove all my makeup I still had a light layer of mascara still on my lashes, but I’ve got into the habit of removing my eye makeup with another current favourite which is the Nivea Daily Essentials Extra Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover before taking the rest of my makeup off.
For a good value cleanser, it has a lovely sweet scent which isn’t overpowering, I always find that Soap & Glory get their scents spot on with their products and it is one of the reasons why they have quickly become one of my favourite brands.. Not only that, but my skin has never felt or looked so good! I have tried out a lot of cleansers over the years and this is the full package. With other cleansers I’ve tried in the past, they either caused my skin to break out, dry out or make it oily, however, this cleanser has only done good things to my skin! It’s highly moisturising, unclogs pores, evens skin tone and keeps oil levels at bay. I’ve barely had a serious breakout in the past three months and for my skin, that’s pretty good!
So in short..
  • Has a pump, can never accidentally use too much
  • Cleanses skin thoroughly
  • Smells great
  • Moisturising
  • Great value for money (Boots – £8)
  • Doesn’t remove mascara well, extra step needed
The pros weigh out the cons completely, definitely worth a try if you’re on a bit of a budget.
I have a lot of posts to get done this year.. So welcome to the first of many! I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Years.

Soap & Glory Skincare

I popped into Boots a few days back for a quick mooch around and came out with half of Soap & Glory’s skincare range.. Oops, all I can say is I’m thankful for Boots points! I ended up getting two cleansers, a moisturiser, eye serum, blemish treatment and a face mask. I will most likely do a more in depth post about each product once I’ve been using them for a month so I can give a better opinion on everything.
The Ultimelt’ Deep Purifying Hot Cloth Cleanser – £10
First off, the only product from the range I knew I wanted to try.. Before I was using the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, but at £26 it is a little on the expensive side. I’m trying to find a cheaper alternative and I think I might of found one. I’ve used this once so far to remove my makeup and my skin has never looked so clear! It doesn’t really smell of anything which is a bonus, I’m not overly keen on scented thick cream cleansers. I always use a toner after cleanseing which usually gives away if a cleanser is good or not, there wasn’t a single trace of makeup left! I think this will be one to repurchase time and time again, plus it’s only £10!
Peaches and Clean’ Deep Cleansing Milk – £8
I would suggest this cleanser if you’re more on the lazy side. Literally just need to slap it on, wipe it off then go to sleep.. Perfect! It’s another cream cleanser even though it’s meant to be a milk, however, it’s not as thick as the cleanser above. Again, I got amazing results, removes all traces of makeup and moisturising. I’m not sure if I would repurchase this at the moment but we’ll see how it goes.
No Clogs Allowed’ Self  Heating Detox Mask – £11.50
This is by far the strangest thing I have used, I’m not sure if I like it or not.. The results are amazing my pores were clear and barely visible, any blemishes I had faded and it left my skin feeling soft and fresh! I’m just not sure how I feel about the self heating side of it, I’ve never used a self heating mask before so I wasn’t sure what to expect and I’m still on the fence about it. It doesn’t get ridiculously hot, almost feels like someone is blowing a hair dryer in your face with the heat setting on, so nothing uncomfortable. I love it for the results alone, we’ll work on the heat thing!
For Daily Youth’ 6in1 Multi-Active Moisturiser – £12
If any of you have been with me for a while, you will know that I am a firm lover of the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer and I still am, however, this is on the same level of love! It’s a lightweight moisturiser which doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky, only incredibly soft and hydrated. It has a subtle peachy smell which I love and so far I haven’t found that it breaks me out in any way unlike some other moisturisers.. Definitely another one for the repurchase list!
You Won’t Believe Your Eyes’ Tired Eye Brightening Moisture Serum – £12.50
I hate my under-eyes with a passion so I am forever trying out under-eye products, I was surprised to find three little rollerballs to apply the product which is brilliant for bringing puffy eyes down. The serum is quite silky feeling on the eyes and doesn’t go sticky once it starts to sink into the skin unlike many other products I have tried. I’d say it’s very similar to Simple Kind To Eyes Revitalising Eye Roll-On with how it goes onto the skin and works. The results are perfect, my eyes are brighter, smoother and the suitcases have gone from under my eyes.. Love it!
Dr Spot’ Super Strength Breakout Clearing Gel – £8
I have only used this a handful of times, but in all honesty, I haven’t noticed much of a difference in my blemishes. It might be because the blemishes I have at the moment are more hormonal than anything so that could be a factor, but I will keep using it twice a day and hope it works! It’s an almost watery gel formula which spreads easily, the only thing I have noticed is it makes my skin drier than usual with these types of products which isn’t ideal. As it stands I doubt I’d buy this again, but things could change.
So that is everything I got from Soap & Glory for now, I will most likely buy more and maybe try out some of their makeup too.. What’s your favourite Soap & Glory products?

September Love List | 2015

I’ve taken a little inspiration from InTheFrow and decided to change my monthly favourites to a monthly love list so it’ll be more of a mixture of what I’ve been loving throughout the month.. So let’s get into it

Hair and Beauty

Tresemme Salon Sleek Frizz Control Spray
I’ve been trying to grow my hair for the past two months, so I have ditched my straighteners and started plaiting my hair before I go to sleep, however, because my hair goes quite frizzy straight out of plaits I needed a little help. My hairdresser recommended this, I didn’t have too high hopes because I’ve tried a lot of anti-frizz products and nothing worked, so I was surprised when this actually helped! It contains Argan oil, which usually I stay away from as it can make my hair greasy quite quickly but I haven’t had that problem luckily. I just spray two or three spritzes of this though the lengths of my hair before plaiting and once I take them out the next morning my hair is still a little fluffy looking but it’s controlled and looks like a natural wave.

Mane and Tail Shampoo/Conditioner
Anyone who uses my bathroom must think I’m a little mad with these two just chilling in my shower! These two are primarily made for horses, but they are suitable for humans too. It’s something I stumbled upon around 3am whilst roaming around YouTube, I came across a channel (Cosmetic Charlotte). She was talking about this shampoo/conditioner and how it had helped strengthen her hair, therefore, helping it grow longer.. Her hair is already pretty darn long though! I ended up doing a lot more research and I couldn’t find a single bad review, the only thing that had been said a lot was that it made the hair very sleek and a little difficult to work with at times. Luckily, I haven’t had that problem so I love this! Bought both the shampoo and conditioner from eBay for £6.99.. Bargain! Since using this my hair is so soft and it has got fairly long, but that could be because I’m not using heat on my hair other than my fringe. Even that has grown a crazy amount! Definitely worth a try, once I’ve used both bottles up I’ll write a more in depth review.

Autumnal Lips
Autumn is all about deep lips for me, I love how it can pull your makeup and outfit together for an autumnal look.. My favourite lip colours for this have been Seventeen ‘Rule Breaker’ Lipstick, Rimmel ‘Black Tulip’ Lip Liner and MAC ‘Burgundy’ Lip Liner. My go-to look lately has been a smoky eye with a slight wing and dark lip, having quite bright green eyes anyway, this combo really makes my eye colour stand out and I love it!

Checked Shirts
My wardrobe is jam packed with checked shirts.. So I decided to get two more, oops! These two are both from New Look and they are the softest shirts I have ever owned! Out of the two, the darker shirt is my absolute favourite, it fits like a dream and the sleeves are a good length which is rare!
Topshop burgundy Leigh jeans
I ‘ve always been a blue or black jeans kind of girl, but I found these on Depop and I couldn’t help but have them. They’re not as comfy as the current Leigh jeans, however, I still love them. I’ve been wearing them with a cream jumper, black leather jacket and some flats with the makeup look I mentioned above.. I just love it all!
New Look burgundy heeled boots
Another Depop find.. Brand new boots for £15 makes a happy Sophie! They fit perfectly and I’m still nowhere near as tall as my boyfriend which is great. They’re so comfortable and I know I’m going to get a lot of wear out of them even if the heel is a little higher than I would wear day to day, but they’re too nice to just keep for special occasions!

Bring Me The Horizon – That’s The Spirit
I have listened to BMTH for literally years and I love them, however, the past two albums they have released have been truly amazing! ‘That’s The Spirit’ was released on the 11th of September and I don’t think a single day has passed where I haven’t listened to the album at least twice.. My favourite songs on the album are Throne, True Friends and Drown.

Sinister 2
I went to the cinema with the boyfriend to watch this and I absolutely loved it! I really liked the first one so when I found out they were making a second film, I couldn’t wait to watch it. I think I preferred this one to the first because there’s more going on, although I will warn you that there are A LOT of jump-scares which almost had my heart jumping out my chest because we were sitting below a speaker.. Rookie mistake!

Prison Break
I cannot describe how much I love this show! Started the series a few weeks ago and we’re just starting season three.. I’m not usually into shows like it, but there is something that has a total hold over me, I love how often the plot twists and turns. You think you’ve figured out what’s about to happen, but nope.. Something better happens!

I have watched all seven seasons and this saddens me deeply, I wish there were more! It’s one of those things that you keep watching then wonder how many days have passed because it draws you in. There’s always a little cliffhanger which means you have to watch the next episode to see what happens..
And that’s been my September, I also turned 22 this month, so a huge thank you to those who wished me a happy birthday and to my friends who read this, thanks for the pressies and birthday wishes too!
What would you add to your September love list?

~ Where else to find me ~

Okay.. I Have Had Enough!

Today’s post isn’t going to be a normal, happy post.. It’s going to be about social media hate and how pathetic I find it! I’ve always received unnecessary hate from pretty much every angle and in all honesty, I don’t get it, what do people get out of it?! I am a very thick skinned person so I don’t let them bother me; however, I’m thinking of all the ones who aren’t able to cope with things and take it all to heart.

I have been called all sorts over the three years I have been posting on the internet, mostly on Twitter. I HATE how Twitter deals with hate accounts.. Well, they don’t! Even if you block or report an account absolutely nothing happens because it doesn’t ‘go against their guidelines’ even though I have had death threats and been told to kill myself.. I’m sorry, but how is that allowed within these ‘guidelines’?! Luckily I have had 20 odd years of learning how to deal with this shit, but what about young teens? I know for a fact that if I was dealing with this whilst I was still in school, I wouldn’t be able to deal with it as well as I am.
The most recent platform I’ve been getting ‘hated’ on is Instagram, now they are much better at dealing with accounts that are abusive. You can delete and report their comments as well as block the account and there’s no way they can get to you again using that account. It’s so much better!
Here’s a snippet of the things I’ve been waking up to lately..
I have had so much more, but I’ve only just started screenshot them.. It’s always the same sort of thing said which make me think it’s either a huge coincidence or there is only one person behind that screen. Either way.. I am so sick and tired of it! The comments are nothing but vile and total bullshit! I have a boyfriend who loves me for exactly who I am, I’m surrounded by friends and family, I’m a size 10/12 so how is that obese?! It’s just so frustrating that people have nothing better to do than try to drag others down to their level.
Twitter needs to up their game by letting you control the content you are mentioned in and give you the option to delete any replies that you find abusive. I’ve had to set my Twitter to private which is a shame, but I cannot be bothered to keep having to block all these accounts yet nothing really happens!
I cannot be alone in this, something needs to change otherwise more tragedies are going to happen through trolling. It’s not fair on those who feel like they’re going through it alone and believe that ending their lives is the only solution when they have so much to live for! At the end of the day it is still bullying and it needs to stop.
